Dolores Hambardzumyan: The heterogeneity and role of myeloid cells in pediatric high-grade gliomas

“In a study funded by our division, James Ross, Montse Puigdelloses Vallcorba, Gonzalo Gonzalez-Del Pino, Nishant Kumar Soni, Dolores Hambardzumyan, et al. showed that microglia and monocyte-derived macrophages drive progression of pediatric high-grade gliomas and are transcriptionally shaped by histone mutations.

Additionally, their mechanistic studies revealed that inhibition of CCR1 and CCR5 (chemokine receptors) reduces macrophage infiltration and extends survival in preclinical models of brain tumors.”

Dolores Hambardzumyan is a Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she has been leading research since August 2023. Prior to this, she served as Associate Professor of Oncological Sciences and Neurosurgery at Mount Sinai Health System from 2019 to 2023. Earlier, she worked as Assistant Staff/Assistant Professor of Molecular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic from 2010 to 2015. Her research focuses on molecular oncology, with a particular emphasis on cancer biology and neurosurgery.
