Marcio Covas Moschovas: The first telesurgery in Angola with the MicroPort MedBot
Marcio Covas Moschovas, Assistant professor at the University of Central Florida, shared a post on Linkedin:
”An Historic Milestone in Telesurgery – First in Angola, First in Africa!
We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to perform the first telesurgery in Angola with the MicroPort MedBot , marking a historic moment as the first telesurgery ever on the African continent.
We performed a radical prostatectomy to treat a patient with prostate cancer. This achievement highlights our ongoing dedication to advancing the field of telesurgery, breaking barriers, and improving access to specialized surgical care worldwide.
This accomplishment reflects the tireless efforts of our team, partners, and supporters as we continue to work at the forefront of surgical innovation. We believe that telesurgery has the power to revolutionize healthcare and create a more connected, accessible world.
The Benefits of Telesurgery:
Expands access to advanced care in regions with limited specialist availability.
Reduces the need for patient or surgeon travel, speeding up care delivery.
Facilitates real-time collaboration and remote training, empowering healthcare providers.
Improves outcomes by connecting patients with the right expertise wherever they are.
Humanitarian Applications of Telesurgery:
Addresses healthcare inequalities by bringing cutting-edge treatments to underserved regions.
Provides life-saving interventions in remote areas during emergencies or crises.
Builds global healthcare networks, fostering knowledge exchange and sustainable care systems.
We are honored to be part of this journey, and we look forward to continuing our work to shape the future of surgery and healthcare.”
