Cancer vaccine can block tumor progression at the early lesion stage – Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center

“Exciting news from researchers at the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program!
A recent study shows that a cancer vaccine can block tumor progression at the early lesion stage.
Mary Philip shares insights from her groundbreaking study published in Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer.”
The vaccine that we use in our mice is actually a vaccine that’s been developed for using in people and has been tested, however, it’s been mainly tested in the setting of patients who have more advanced stage cancers. And what we found in our study is that the timing is really important. So when we give the vaccines really early, before a lot of cancer has developed, then it’s really pretty much blocks 100% of cancers from developing.
If we give it too late, then it didn’t work as well. So I think this suggests that we really need to time our vaccines carefully in order to get the best, best outcomes.
