“This year, Dr. Pazdur celebrates his 25th anniversary at the FDA and his 45th anniversary in oncology! OncoDaily and I had the great pleasure and honor of interviewing the legendary Director of the FDA’s Oncology Center of Excellence, Dr. Richard Pazdur.

We discussed his contributions to the field of oncology, advancements over the years, the balance between rigorous evaluation and innovation, overcoming global disparities, and addressing the challenges in pediatric cancer drug development. We also explored myths and facts in colorectal cancer, the importance of mentorship, and the role of media, as well as what to expect in the coming years. Richard Pazdur is the Director of the FDA’s Oncology Center of Excellence (OCE), where he oversees the coordination of oncology product reviews. He joined the FDA in 1999 as Director of the Division of Oncology Drug Products and led the 2005 consolidation of cancer and hematologic review divisions into the Office of Hematology and Oncology Products (OHOP). In 2019, OHOP became the Office of Oncologic Diseases (OOD), where he currently serves as acting director.

Gevorg Tamamyan is the Editor-in-chief of OncoDaily, President-Elect of SIOP Asia Continental Branch and Pediatric Oncology East and Mediterranean (POEM) Group, and the CEO of the Immune Oncology Research Institute (IMMONC). He is the Chairman and Professor of the department of Haematology and Pediatric Oncology at Yerevan State Medical University.

He is a Co-Founder and Board Member of the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology, City of Smile Charitable Foundation, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Cancer and Crisis, the Former President of the Harvard Club of Armenia.
