Beri Ridgeway: Dr. Abraham is not only an expert in his field, but also a compassionate leader and team member

Quoting Beri Ridgeway, Chief Of Staff at Cleveland Clinic, on LinkedIn:

“I am thrilled to recognize Jame Abraham, M.D. FACP is an exceptional physician who has made a profound impact on many patients’ lives. He goes above and beyond to ensure that they receive the best possible care while treating some of the most challenging oncologic cases.

As a team member, Dr. Abraham is approachable, humble, and deeply compassionate, always willing to help and support his colleagues and staff. He is a role model for all of us, demonstrating that it is possible to be a high-achieving physician while still being an empathetic and compassionate individual.

Dr. Abraham is not only an expert in his field, but also a compassionate leader and team member. Despite the difficulties of his work, he remains positive and optimistic, offering hope and encouragement to his patients and their families. He is known for calling his patients the night before their appointments to reassure them and provide them with an overview of what to anticipate. He does this for new and established patients, and he is known to do this even on a Sunday night. Dr. Abraham is always willing to spend as much time as needed with family members to discuss prognosis. Dr. Abraham surrounds people at times of their greatest need, and he does so in a manner that is never rushed.

While many examples come to mind, I’ll share a recent case. Earlier this spring, the patient, who had previously traveled to Cleveland Clinic for treatment and whose cancer had been in remission for two years, experienced a recurrence. She returned to Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Abraham quickly engaged colleagues within Cleveland Clinic and across his network to explore the best treatment options available to provide her with the best care. Unfortunately, the patient’s disease progressed rapidly. Jame sat with the patient and her husband as they faced the difficult reality that within three short weeks of her cancer’s re-emergence, they needed to shift the conversation from treatment options to hospice care.

Dr. Abraham understands that his patients are not just a list of symptoms and medical conditions. He sees them as individuals with unique stories, hopes, and fears. He takes the time to listen to their concerns, to hold their hands, and to cry with them if necessary. He treats his patients with the utmost respect and dignity, recognizing that they are going through one of the most difficult times of their lives.

I don’t know how he does it.

His dedication to his patients and colleagues sets a remarkable example for the healthcare community, making him an unsung hero to us all.

Please join me in congratulating Jame Abraham!”
