It’s nice to know that what you’re doing is very important to someone specific – The Institute of Cancer Research

The Institute of Cancer Research shared a post on LinkedIn:

““It’s nice to know that what you’re doing is very important to someone specific – it’s humbling and really makes you feel accountable to deliver something meaningful”

At the ICR, we are lucky to work with inspiring family-led charity partners. The generous support of these charities helps ensure we can continue our important research so that we can, one day, defeat cancer.

In some cases, this partnership can change the lives of individual scientists.

In our latest blog post, we learn from two ICR scientists – Dr Yura Grabovska and Rita Pereira – what the support of our family charity partners means to them. Yura and Rita work in the Glioma Group, which aims to determine what drives the development of childhood brain tumours so that we can develop much-needed safe and effective treatments.

Their crucial work is possible thanks to funding from the Rudy A Menon Foundation and the Ollie Young Foundation.

Over time, both scientists have come to know Rudy’s and Ollie’s families on a more personal level. Both families are really interested in the research, and they are heavily involved in the wider field of paediatric brain cancer and in their communities.

Yura and Rita keep both charities up to date with the team’s projects and, when possible, also take part in the fundraising activities they organise.”
