Honoring Daniel Caplan’s Memory with Research Funding for DIPG – ICR

The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) posted the following on LinkedIn:

“‘We want to keep Daniel’s memory alive and give others the chance of treatment he never had.’

Daniel Caplan died on 30 November 2020, just seven months after he was diagnosed with diffuse midline glioma (DMG) / DIPG. He always hoped he would get better but understood the odds were against him, as there are currently no effective treatments.

Daniel wanted to raise money for brain tumour research, to give others the chance of treatment he didn’t have. Now his family is working with the ICR to fulfill this wish. Daniel’s parents, Alison and Brian, recently marked what would have been Daniel’s 21st birthday by making a gift of £21,000 towards our childhood brain tumour research for the Doing it for Daniel Foundation.

The foundation’s gift will have a hugely positive impact on the DMG research being undertaken by Professor Chris Jones and his team, which aims to bring about new and effective treatments. Alison and Brian recently visited our labs in Sutton to meet Professor Chris Jones to hear about the research that they have so generously supported.
