Malnutrition affects 30% to 80% of older adults with cancer – SPCC

SPCC (Sharing Progress in Cancer Care) shared the following post on LinkedIn:

“Malnutrition affects 30% to 80% of older adults with cancer, contributing to frailty, poor treatment outcomes, and reduced survival rates. Despite this, nutritional status is not always a priority among oncology healthcare providers.

In a new position paper, resulting from a task force as part of the SPCC Project on the impact of nutritional status in Geriatric Oncology, leading experts in the fields of geriatric medicine, oncology, and nutrition science present compelling evidence for regular nutrition risk screening and assessment in older cancer patients. By doing so, healthcare providers can implement patient-centred nutrition management strategies, thereby enhancing geriatric-oncology care.
