The New President and CEO of Dana-Farber Cancer Center – Benjamin Ebert

Benjamin Ebert, MD, PhD chair of Department of Medical Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Center was recently appointed as the President and CEO of Dana-Farber Cancer Center.

Benjamin Levine Ebert is the George P. Canellos, MD, and Jean S. Canellos Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

He is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and an Institute Member of the Broad Institute.

He is an elected member of the following:

  • The National Academy of Medicine.
  • The American Society for Clinical Investigation.
  • The Association of American Physicians.

He has served as the President of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Personal Life and Interests

Benjamin Ebert grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. His father was a psychiatrist and a scientist working at the National Institutes of Health.

This led to Dr. Ebert getting exposed to clinical medicine and research from an early age. His first job was as a math tutor for kids of all ages in high school. He was also a competitive cyclist and triathlete.

Education

Benjamin Ebert received his bachelor’s degree from Williams College and a doctorate from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

He completed an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

  • The William Dameshek Prize from the American Society of Hematology.
