The grant will investigate the impact of diet and microbial metabolites on anti-PD-1 responsiveness in preclinical models (Aim 1+2) and support the analysis of the clinical fecal and blood samples (Aim 3) that will be obtained from the Neo-Gut TNBC trial opening soon at LCI.”

Katherine Cook is an Associate Professor at Wake Forest School of Medicine, an Assistant Professor at Wake Forest University, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Central University of the Caribbean. Her research investigates how complex biological systems interact to affect human health and disease.

Dr. Ruben A. Mesa, MD, FACP, serves as the president and executive director of Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Additionally, he holds the position of vice dean for cancer programs and professor of medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is an international expert in hematologic cancers, particularly myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs).

Through his tireless efforts, Dr. Mesa continues to drive progress in the understanding and treatment of hematologic malignancies, offering hope to those affected by these complex diseases.
