“Cool stuff from Monte Winslow’s Lab further suggesting that variant 3 is more oncogenic; perhaps other ‘short’ EML4-ALK fusions too.
Also, tumor suppressors have variant-specific impact.

Amazing collaboration between  Emily Shuldiner and Alberto Diaz using somatic genome editing to model 60 different genotypes of EML4-ALK lung cancer. Genetics say that Variant 1 and Variant 3 should be considered distinct oncogenes.
