Min-Han Tan: A Friday reflection for those seeking meaning in their work

Min-Han Tan, Founding CEO at Lucence, shared on LinkedIn:

“A Friday reflection for those seeking meaning in their work but who may be frustrated at the pace of change, or the challenges in biotech —

It took 80 years to grow from neural networks (1943) to generative AI today. Massive change unfolds gradually, punctuated by times of rapid change.

For liquid biopsy, Thomas Ashworth first looked down a microscope and saw malignant cells in the blood of an Australian cancer patient in 1869, thus opening an era.

Fast forward 150 years, and the convergence of genomics and medicine is propelling us beyond traditional ‘sick’-care. This opportunity to uplift human health through earlier and more accurate detection and decision-making is now possible.

We are now experiencing a period of rapid change in health care, as the individual is more empowered to understand and manage personal health, as healthcare systems strain to address mighty challenges especially worldwide aging.

The power of globalization, technology and shipping logistics means that advancements in detection are becoming more accurate, affordable, and comprehensive, benefiting people worldwide, even in their home!

While frustrations with healthcare systems everywhere abound (and it is indeed healthy to highlight gaps!), but we are really so fortunate to be part of this transformative era.

So it is a great thing to embrace the challenge, keep fixing things, and contribute our own stories to that intricate tapestry of human advancement!”
