Dickson Daniel: Grateful to Lakeshore Cancer Center for the course on the basics of cancer screening and referral
Dickson Daniel shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I want to express my gratitude to Lakeshore Cancer Center for the course on the basics of cancer screening and referral. Thanks to this course I now have a better understanding of the differences between screening and diagnosis as well as the complexities of cancer referral.
I also recognize the challenges in accessing efficient cancer care which are crucial for successful treatment outcomes
During the course I noted the barriers to timely diagnosis and access to treatment in Nigeria which are similar to those in my own country and other low and middle income countries especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. These barriers include…
- Awareness and access to care
- Clinical evaluation, diagnosis and staging
- Access to treatment including…
- Financial barriers
- Geographic barriers
- Sociocultural barriers
While it is true that we are behind advanced cancer care compared to developed countries, there is still time to utilize our available resources to make a difference and bridge the cancer care gap.
Let us all work together to close the cancer care gap,”
