Michael Chuong: Priviliged to treat a challenging hepatocellular carcinoma case in Miami Cancer Institute
Michael Chuong, Lead GI Radiation Oncologist at Miami Cancer Institute, shared on LinkedIn:
“16 cm hepatocellular carcinoma that grew after chemoembolization. Challenging case with few good options.
Treated with ablative proton therapy (67.5 Gy/15 fractions; BED10 ~100 Gy) and look at the response after 2 and then 6 months later!
These dramatic responses evolve slowly over several months, something that often is underappreciated. But patience pays off.
Normal tumor marker and no toxicity. Patient is living a normal life.
Radiation therapy is routinely overlooked for treating this disease but we are slowly changing minds. Difficult cases like this are so rewarding to treat and I am grateful we had the privilege to treat this gentleman at Miami Cancer Institute.”
