Richard Sullivan: A new covenant for global cancer is urgently needed from all cancer research funding organizations.
Quoting Richard Sullivan, the Director of the Institute for Cancer Policy
on LinkedIn:“At this year’s World Oncology Forum, the contemporary reality of global cancer research was ruthlessly dissected. Despite eye-watering sums of money in the cancer Research and Development ecosystem, the inequalities in who and what is being funded are worsening.
We see gender inequalities in who publishes, the domination of commercial agenda, massive geographic inequalities and a relentless focus on discovery science and biopharmaceutical research, at the expense of many other critical research domains.
The ecosystem is totally misaligned with what research is needed to deliver better, equitable, and affordable cancer care to all our patients, irrespective of country. A new covenant for global cancer is urgently needed from all cancer research funding organizations.”
