Francisco J. Esteva: Where in the world are the largest gaps in female specific cancers?

Francisco J. Esteva, Lenox Hill Hospital shared a post on LinkedIn:

“The incidence and prevalence of female-specific cancers play a critical role in the sex gap in life expectancy globally, emphasizing the urgency for targeted healthcare interventions. A recent study shed light on the significant variability of this gap across different regions and countries.

The evidence points out that countries with the largest sex gaps are mainly found in Eastern Europe, Northern Asia, Latin America, and Southern Africa, while Northern Africa, Northern America, and Northern Europe show the smallest gaps. This disparity underlines the need for enhanced access to prevention, screening, and treatment for female-specific cancers to bridge this gap and improve life expectancy, particularly at working and reproductive ages.
