Ulrika Årehed Kågström: All women must have equal access to qualitative healthcare.
Ulrika Årehed Kågström, Secretary General of Swedish Cancer Society/Cancerfonden, made the following post on LinkedIn:
“Today I am in Brussels participating in the conference “The Economist 9th Annual Cancer Series – Improving lives through transformative prevention, care, and cures,”. The conference brings together decision-makers, healthcare providers, businesses, academia, patient groups, and many more with a common focus on assessing the progress of the EU’s Beating Cancer plan and identifying further actions needed.
I spoke about women and cancer and how we all have a duty to ensure that women have equal access to the diagnosis and treatment they are entitled to, regardless of where they live, background or level of education. Today, we see significant disparities in both treatment and survival rates in conditions such as breast cancer and cervical cancer, for example. Socioeconomic factors and the country of residence should not play a role in this. All women must have equal access to qualitative healthcare. Achieving this requires continued collective effort to better understand the reasons for these inequalities, and the will to address them, and thus reduce inequalities in cancer care.”
