Paolo A. Ascierto: Positive Phase 3 KEYTRUDA Results Advance Personalized Melanoma Treatment

Paolo A. Ascierto, Full Professor of Oncology at the University of Naples Federico II, Director of the Department of Melanoma, Cancer Immunotherapy and Development Therapeutics at the National Cancer Institute IRCCS Pascale Foundation, shared on LinkedIn:

“A major step forward in personalized cancer treatment.

Merck and Moderna have announced positive Phase 3 results for intismeran autogene, an individualized mRNA-based neoantigen therapy, in combination with pembrolizumab (KEYTRUDA) for patients with completely resected stage IIB–IV melanoma.

The INTerpath-001 trial met its endpoints for recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival, showing statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements compared with KEYTRUDA alone.

These results mark an important milestone for mRNA-based cancer therapies and for a more personalized approach to melanoma treatment.

This is just the first step. The same approach could pave the way for the development of personalized mRNA-based therapies across many other types of cancer.

The full announcement.”
