Mass General Cancer Center Shared Dawn Quadir’s Story with Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer
“Dawn Quadir’s symptoms started with blood in her stool. Once she finally received a colonoscopy, she found out she had stage 3 colorectal cancer, and later found out the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. Dawn then had genetic testing, which revealed that she carries a rare genetic mutation, RAD51D, which raises her risk for certain types of cancer.
Dawn is currently undergoing radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Once finished, she will then have surgery to remove her tumor. Dawn urges anyone experiencing symptoms to make sure to talk to your doctor. Read her full story on Today.”
Aparna Raj Parikh, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Gastrointestinal Oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, shared this post, adding:
“Dawn is a remarkable woman-incredibly gracious and kind. Thanks to her for sharing her story. This is early onset color cancer (noting that she does have a hereditary predisposition, but most don’t).“
