Aaron Sverdlov: Cardio-Oncology Is About More Than Just Science – It’s About People
Aaron Sverdlov, Professor and Director of Heart Failure and Co-Director at Newcastle Centre of Excellence in Cardio-Oncology, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Cardio-oncology is about more than just science — it’s about people.
A Current Affair tonight will feature the story of Jaci, one of our patients, navigating the challenges of cancer treatment while facing serious heart complications.
We’re grateful she bravely shared her journey, and proud that our research and clinical care are helping patients receive life-saving cancer therapies without sacrificing their heart health.
Our team, co-led by Doan Ngo is been working in the field of cardiooncology:
– Understand mechanisms of cancer therapy-related cardiac injury
– Prevent and detect cardiotoxicity earlier
– Deliver coordinated, patient-centred care that bridges oncology and cardiology
– Discover therapies that protect the heart and help beat cancerHuge thanks to A Current Affair team and Deborah Knight for helping shine a light on this emerging and vital field. And to Jaci — your courage drives us to keep pushing the boundaries of care and research.
Many thanks to all our patients, who share their journey with us and make our work meaningful!”
