Gevorg Tamamyan: UICC Young Leaders Program is a wonderful initiative, which not only empowers young cancer professionals but also creates a great network of like-minded people from around the globe!
Gevorg Tamamyan, the Editor-in-Chief of OncoDaily and the Head of the Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Armenia, recently posted on LinkedIn:
“Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Young Leaders Program is a wonderful initiative, which not only empowers young cancer professionals but also creates a great network of like-minded people from around the globe!
A few years ago, in one of the most difficult moments in our country, when our funds for pediatric oncology were close to the end, I started reaching out to hundreds of people from around the globe. One of my letters went to Ishtar Espejo, CEO of Fundación Aladina in Spain, a UICC Young Leader, a wonderful person, and now a great friend. Ishtar kindly replied, and then we had a great discussion, She mentioned also that we are in the same UICC Young Leader group, which I am sure, played an important role. We further had a short discussion with another great person Paco Arango, the founder of Aladina, a famous Spanish producer and film director. And… in that most critical moment in Armenia, they decided to support us and donated a big amount of money to the City of Smile Charitable Foundation, which helped us sustain pediatric cancer care for a few months.
I wanted to tell this short story not only to recognize the amazing contribution of Fundación Aladina, Paco Arango, and Ishtar Espejo but also to show that the UICC Young Leaders Group consists of such incredible people.”
