I met my incredible mentor, Dr. Maria Babak, at Harvard Medical School, who has been instrumental in shaping my career – Jemma Arakelyan via The Babak Lab
The Babak Lab shared on their LinkedIn page:
“My name is Jemma Arakelyan. I am the CEO of the Institute of Cancer Crises and an advisor for the Immune Oncology Research Institute.
Hailing from Armenia, I embarked on a path that led me to become an Oncologist and a passionate cancer researcher. After completing my medical degree at Yerevan State Medical University, I decided to specialize in Medical Oncology.
I got a scholarship to the High Impact Cancer Research program at Harvard Medical School. There, I met my incredible mentor, Dr. Maria Babak, who has been instrumental in shaping my career.
I am pursuing my PhD in the Drug Discovery Lab, where I have published more than 12 peer-reviewed articles. I gained recognition through these distinctions:
– 2023 Rising Star Grant from the European Cancer Community Foundation
– The 2023 CSCI Excellent Paper Award for Research Students
– The HKPFS Academic Excellence and QE Award from 2021 to 2023
I also received scholarships and grants from these esteemed organizations:
– The Hong Kong Association of University Women
– HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund
– Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Entrance Scholarships
I have the privilege of hosting Cancer and Crises talks on OncoDaily, where I work as a co-editor for the publication. We provide a platform for thought-provoking discussions on the challenges faced by cancer patients and the healthcare community.
Beyond the lab, I find solace in books, where I can explore different worlds and perspectives.
I love hiking. Nature has a way of rejuvenating my spirit and reminding me of the wonders of life.
I have a passion for writing short stories. Storytelling allows me to unleash my creativity and explore different narratives.
My ultimate goal is to become a clinical trialist who can bring new hope to cancer patients by developing and testing novel treatments.
Let’s make a difference together!”
