Democratising Genetic Diagnosis: Nanopore-Based CFTR Sequencing Across the African Continent

This webinar explored how innovative nanopore sequencing technologies are helping improve the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis and other rare genetic diseases in African populations while highlighting the importance of equitable international research partnerships.

During the session, Prof. Abriel shared:

  •  The application of nanopore-based CFTR sequencing in Africa.
  •  The vision and achievements of the Pan-African CF Research Network (PACFRN).
  •  His experience building long-term collaborations with African researchers.
  •  Opportunities and challenges for advancing genomic medicine across the continent.

One of the most inspiring aspects of the webinar was Prof. Abriel’s genuine commitment to supporting African scientists and fostering equitable collaborations. His interaction with participants reflected the importance of creating scientific networks that empower researchers and accelerate genomic research in Africa.

Whether you are a student, clinician, researcher, faculty member, or policymaker, this webinar offers valuable insights into the future of rare disease genomics and collaborative research.

If you find the webinar valuable, please share it with colleagues and students who may benefit from it.

Together, we can strengthen genomics research, education, and collaboration across Africa.”
