Véronique Vendrely Opens SFRO Congress 2026 with a Joint ESTRO Session on Re-Irradiation

Véronique Vendrely, Professor of Medicine and Hospital Physician at Bordeaux University Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:

“Opening the SFRO Congress today with a joint SFRO-ESTRO session on re-irradiation.

The 2026 SFRO Congress opens today at CNIT Forest, Paris-La Défense (4-6 November), and our very first session is devoted to re-irradiation, a field where clinical decisions are complex and where sharing expertise across borders makes a real difference for our patients.

This joint session is co-chaired by Prof. Barbara Jereczek-Fossa, President of ESTRO, and Dr Arnaud Beddok. It is one more concrete step in the partnership between SFRO and ESTRO.

Last January, we launched a joint ESTRO/SFRO membership. I am delighted to share that it has been a great success: 650 joint memberships to date. Thank you to every colleague who chose to join both communities. Re-irradiation is a good example of why European collaboration matters. No single country has enough patients, data or experience to answer every question on its own. By pooling our knowledge, harmonising our practices and building shared research, we can offer safer and more effective treatments to patients across Europe.

Together, we go further.”

About SFRO Congress 2026 – French Radiation Oncology Congress

The SFRO Congress 2026 is the annual scientific meeting of the Société Française de Radiothérapie Oncologique (SFRO), the French Society of Radiation Oncology.

The congress brings together specialists to discuss advances in radiotherapy, clinical research, treatment techniques, patient safety and multidisciplinary cancer care. One notable feature of the 2026 meeting is its emphasis on European collaboration, particularly between SFRO and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO).

Main scientific topics

According to the official 2026 programme, the congress covers:

  • Re-irradiation: Treatment planning, radiobiology and cumulative radiation dose.
  • Advanced radiotherapy: Hypofractionation, stereotactic radiotherapy, adaptive radiotherapy and brachytherapy.
  • Artificial intelligence: Clinical applications, practical challenges and ethical considerations.
  • Cancer-specific sessions: Breast, lung, bladder, head and neck, gynecologic, gastrointestinal and central nervous system cancers.
  • Personalized treatment: Combining radiotherapy with systemic therapies, treatment de-escalation and radiobiology.
  • Patient-centred care: Supportive care, inclusion, diversity and healthcare professionals’ mental health.
