Tamer Refaat, Associate Director of Global Oncology at Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Canter – Loyola University Chicago, shared on LinkedIn:
“It was a pleasure to represent the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) as Chair of its International Committee and to sign a joint resolution with ALATRO President Dr. Gustavo Sarria Bardales at the 10th ALATRO Congress in Montevideo, Uruguay․
Through this resolution, ASTRO and ALATRO will explore opportunities to connect colleagues across regions through mentorship, share educational resources and clinical best practices, and reduce financial barriers to professional participation.
One of the highlights was sharing the moment with our ASTRO Ambassadors from Latin America, presidents of radiation oncology societies from across the region, and members of the ALATRO Board.
There was real energy in the room and a genuine eagerness to work together.
I’m grateful to the ASTRO executive Board of Directors Sameer Keole, Neha Vapiwala, Catheryn Yashar, Erickson Beth, for their support and to ASTRO CEO Dr. Vivek S. Kavadi, for his continued support and co-signing the resolution.
Thank you to Dr. Sarria and our ALATRO colleagues for their partnership and for making us feel so welcome in Montevideo.
I look forward to what we can do together to advance radiation oncology research, education, and clinical practice.
¡Muchas gracias!”
