Sandra Naaman: APPOS Summit Focuses on Endocrine Complications of Cancer Immunotherapy

Sandra Naaman, Director of Medical Subspecialties at Rush University Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“It was a pleasure to speak at the Advanced Practice Providers Oncology Summit (APPOS) in Chicago on Endocrinopathies Associated with Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Therapies: Recognition, Evaluation and Management.

As immunotherapy use keeps expanding, the primary teams are often the first to notice the subtle signs of hypophysitis, thyroiditis, adrenal insufficiency, and immune-mediated diabetes. Early recognition and a clear workup can prevent life-threatening crises. Most patients can also safely continue their cancer treatment with the right hormone replacement.

To support this, we have launched an Endocrine Oncology E-Consult Service at RUSH MD Anderson Cancer Center for patients on immune checkpoint inhibitors to get ahead of immune toxicities and keep cancer treatments on track.

Thank you to the APPOS and Horizon CME team for the invitation, and to the engaged audience for great questions. Endocrine toxicities are where oncology and endocrinology meet, and close collaboration is what keeps patients safe.”
