‘Clinical trials are the bridge between a promising laboratory discovery and a better option for someone with cancer. They are how we learn whether a new therapy, diagnostic, prevention strategy, or biomarker actually helps people.
People with advanced cancer don’t have years to wait while a promising idea moves through avoidable layers of delay in our clinical trials system. We’re also seeing more early-phase clinical trials moving overseas to places like Australia and China because their systems are faster and cheaper.’
That’s why NCI is focused on reducing unnecessary friction in our clinical trials infrastructure.’
‘This isn’t about lowering our standards for safety – it’s about figuring out which steps are truly necessary and which can be simplified or removed. Where can we speed up the system by standardizing, coordinating, and moving work in parallel rather than in sequence?
Operation TrialBlazer, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)’s new department-wide clinical trials effort, is an important step in that direction. It recognizes that restoring American leadership in clinical research will require coordinated action across the research ecosystem.’
