Moffitt Cancer Center Becomes First Standalone Cancer Center to Open a Nikon Center of Excellence

On March 4, 2025, Moffitt Cancer Center announced the opening of a Nikon Center of Excellence, becoming the first standalone cancer center in the world to establish such a facility.

Greg Sawyer, Ph.D., chair of Moffitt’s Bioengineering Department, emphasized the potential impact of this initiative:

“At Moffitt, we are committed to advancing cancer research and improving patient outcomes through innovation. The establishment of a Nikon Center of Excellence enhances our ability to leverage state-of-the-art imaging technology, deepening our understanding of cancer and accelerating the development of new therapies.”

The center will provide researchers with access to advanced imaging platforms, including live-cell and super-resolution imaging systems. This collaboration with Nikon aims to enhance imaging capabilities in cancer research, allowing scientists to visualize cellular and molecular processes with greater precision. By enabling real-time experiment design at the cellular level, researchers can study how cancer cells react and behave, analyze data using machine learning, and integrate mathematical oncology to refine treatment strategies.

Andy Davis, Director of Sales at Nikon Instruments, highlighted the role of the partnership:

“Nikon’s collaboration with Moffitt Cancer Center reflects our commitment to advancing research excellence in the scientific community. By creating this center, we aim to support Moffitt’s imaging and research capabilities as they continue their work in cancer research.”

The establishment of the Nikon Center of Excellence at Moffitt Cancer Center represents an effort to integrate advanced imaging technologies with cancer research. This initiative may contribute to further discoveries in cancer diagnostics and treatment strategies.
