Mark Shahin, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at PENN STATE MILTON S. HERSHEY MEDICAL CENTER, shared on LinkedIn:
“Almost a year after joining Penn State Health, I am very pleased and proud to share the exciting news that the Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship at Penn State Hershey Medical Center has been approved.
This is much more than the creation of a new training program – it represents the re-establishment of a proud tradition in Gynecologic Oncology at Penn State.
More than two decades ago, Dr. Rod Mortel led the Gynecologic Oncology program at Penn State, helping establish a strong foundation for the care of women with gynecologic cancers, education, and academic excellence. His legacy continues to be an important part of the history of our division and institution.
Today, we have been given the opportunity to build upon that legacy and once again train the next generation of gynecologic oncologists at Penn State.
The approval of this fellowship reflects the tremendous work and commitment of our leadership, faculty, staff, trainees, and institutional leadership.
I am grateful for the support of my partners Drs Joel Sorosky, Shaina Bruce, our Chair of OB/GYN Dr Rick Legro and our DIO Dr Karl Clebak.
I am particularly excited about what this means for our patients in Central PA, our learners, and the future of Gynecologic Oncology at Penn State. It is a privilege to be part of this next chapter.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make this milestone possible – and thank you to those who laid the foundation before us.
A proud tradition renewed. A new generation of gynecologic oncologists to be trained. An exciting future for Penn State Gynecologic Oncology.”
