Dr. Gevorg Tamamyan, WHO DG candidate, went live on his social media channels today announcing about his “Road to Geneve” series as a part of his campaign starting from Boston.
He first focused on the importance of listening – to understand where the deepest problems lie and why countries like USA and Argentina had left it, and continued with hope and determination to see them join back WHO. He emphasized USA’s role in medical education nostalgically reflecting on his own training and education in USA and his inspiration from Paul Farmer.
Below is his message from the live video.
“We need the United States back in WHO. We need Argentina back in WHO.
By listening, by changing what needs to change, and by earning their trust again.
We are stronger together.
Today I’m starting a series of live conversations:
“The Road to Geneva.”
I will talk with people around the world: health workers, students, patients, leaders, people on the street. I will listen. I will share my ideas. And sometimes, we will disagree. That’s how trust is built.
WHO must be closer to the people it serves.
First stop: Boston.
If you could ask WHO for one thing, what would it be? Tell me in the comments. I’ll bring your questions on the road.
Because, as I said from the beginning:
Geography must not decide who lives.”
