This is the first regional event in the ‘ESO Ambassador Educational Event Series – Towards 50 years of Learning to Care‘, marking the start of a programme that will accompany the European School of Oncology towards its 50th anniversary.

The initiative brings ESO Ambassadors from neighbouring countries together to identify shared educational needs and organise regional learning opportunities. Its aim is to introduce more professionals to ESO, encourage collaboration across borders and build professional connections that continue beyond each event.

With an average age of 35, the Skopje group includes 30 women and 13 men, representing a range of specialties: 13 participants in clinical oncology, 12 in medical oncology, 11 in surgery, six in radiation oncology and one in pathology. Their different specialties and healthcare settings will bring a range of perspectives to the discussions.

The scientific programme will explore the multidisciplinary approach to neoadjuvant and post-neoadjuvant treatment in breast cancer, combining lectures, clinical case discussions and practical workshops. Dedicated sessions on avoiding burnout and delivering bad news will address the personal and communication challenges of working in oncology.

Together, these activities put ESO’s motto ‘Learning to Care‘ into practice: developing scientific knowledge alongside the ability to collaborate, communicate and support people throughout their care.

The event will take place at the University Clinic of Radiotherapy and Oncology and Faculty of Medicine in Skopje, North Macedonia, hosted by ESO Ambassador Gordana Petkovska from the same institution, together with Fatjona Pupuleku Kraja from Mother Teresa University Hospital in Tirana, Albania, Lazaros Papadopoulos from the Breast Unit at IASO Gynecological Clinic in Athens, Greece, and Brunilda Haxhiu from the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK) in Prishtina, Kosovo.”
