Christopher Jackson, Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Otago and National Clinical Lead for Cancer Services in New Zealand, shared on LinkedIn:
“Very grateful to the global cancer community to have been re-elected to the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Board of Directors this week, alongside Todd Harper, Maira Caleffi, Kathleen Schmeler, Stella Bialous and Matti Aapro.
Congratulations to CS Pramesh as our President Elect.
We look forward to serving under the charismatic Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu for the betterment of all people affected by cancer worldwide.
Indebted to Ulrika Årehed Kågström for her leadership over her entire tenure on the board, especially the last 2 years as president.
We welcome Zipporah Ali, Fatima Cardoso, Hesham ElGhazaly, Julia Ismael, Sri Navaratnam, Christian Ntizimira, Jesper Fisker, and Han-Kwang Yang.
I’ve always believed we must work the hardest for those who are too often left behind. That has fuelled my work for rural and regional communities, as well as our indigenous populations.
I believe we can and must do better for all, and that good stewardship of our critical organisations is key for meaningful change.
This term’s board brings a fantastic mix of global representation and professional experience. I’m looking forward to contributing my own skills as an oncologist, researcher, advocate, teacher, governor and family member – and as someone who has spent much of my career working across health systems and with governments to make meaningful change happen.
We have a great team, and a brilliant UICC community. I am looking forward to working with you all to turn research into policy, policy into action, and action into outcomes, making sure that progress doesn’t leave people behind.”
