International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) shared President Dr. Caicun Zhou’s reflections on the organization’s 52nd birthday, highlighting over five decades of global collaboration, multidisciplinary scientific breakthroughs, and the transformative impact of human connection at the annual World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC).
“IASLC President Dr. Caicun Zhou shares his thoughts on IASLC’s 52nd birthday .
‘Over these decades, IASLC has united thoracic oncology professionals worldwide, driven breakthroughs in research, elevated patient care standards, and turned scientific discoveries into real-world benefits for people living with lung cancer and thoracic malignancies.
I have many cherished memories with IASLC. One of my favorites is exchanging ideas face-to-face with peers from across the globe at our annual WCLC. Those sincere, rigorous discussions, even debates over emerging clinical evidence, remind me why we gather here: we share the same mission to conquer thoracic cancers. These human connections make IASLC far more than an academic society.
Looking forward to the next 52 years, what excites me most is our endless potential. With rapid advances in immunotherapy, targeted therapy, ADCs, novel cellular therapies, and precision diagnostics, I believe we will keep breaking treatment boundaries. IASLC will continue to serve as the global platform for collaboration, bridging basic science and clinical practice, and ultimately moving closer to better survival outcomes and quality of life for all thoracic cancer patients.
IASLC will keep leading this global community, empowering the next generation of investigators, and steadily advancing toward our shared goal: defeating thoracic cancers.'”
