“What is changing? What’s getting stuck? These are the questions at the heart of C/Can’s Mid-Cycle Assessment.
Phnom Penh has 12 projects underway, each designed by local stakeholders to close a specific gap in the city’s health system in cancer care, from diagnostics and health financing to quality of care and patient education. Each is anchored to Cambodia’s National Cancer Control Plan 2025-2030, so the work feeds into national priorities rather than sitting alongside it.
Over the past days, the C/Can team met with project teams and spent time inside the hospitals where this work actually takes place, talking to the directors and clinicians who have been working to improve cancer care in the city through new protocols and quality standards, building capacity of multidisciplinary teams, and more.
The mission closed with local stakeholders co-designing the path forward: laying the groundwork for clinical guidelines and recommendations developed through C/Can projects to be formally endorsed by Cambodia’s Ministry of Health and disseminated for adoption across the health system.
Phnom Penh’s projects are part of one programme that aims to change what cancer care looks like in the city, and proves that local action can drive lasting, systemic change.
