Alexander Roediger: EU Presidency Conference Connects Innovation With Better Health Outcomes

Alexander Roediger, Associate Vice-President, Global Lead Oncology Policy at MSD, shared Iris Cribbin’s post on LinkedIn, adding:

“Encouraging to see the discussion at the EU Presidency Conference in Dublin continue to build momentum around pathways for transformative innovation in Europe.

This was about innovation and competitiveness, and about improving outcomes for people affected by disease. The three cannot be considered in isolation.

A big thank you to my colleagues, Iris Cribbin, Blaine Gaffney and Samantha Humphreys, for their support, and to EAPM for bringing together stakeholders and creating space for these important conversations.”

Iris Cribbin, Director of External Affairs at MSD Ireland, shared:

“It was great to be in the room this morning, and we were proud to support our MSD colleague Alexander Roediger, AVP, Global Lead Oncology Policy, as a panelist at the opening session:

‘From Innovation to Access: Why Europe Needs a Health Innovation Fund’

– part of ‘Innovation and Securing Patient Access to Personalised Medicine’, an event thoughtfully organised and moderated by Stephen McMahon (Irish Patients Association) and Denis Horgan, (International Alliance for Personalised Medicine) during the Irish Presidency.

The central question was a sharp one: Can Europe afford not to invest in health innovation?

As Alexander argued, Europe faces a clear ‘innovation-access gap’ – scientific breakthroughs that win approval but still don’t reach patients. A targeted, time-limited European Health Innovation Fund could act as a bridge: accelerating access to transformative technologies while advancing patient outcomes, competitiveness, and future innovation together.

Thank you to the excellent panel speakers for their insights and perspectives on this important topic: Derek Tierney (Dept. of Health, Ireland), Alexander Roediger (MSD), Nikki Gallagher (Irish Cancer Society), and Gianpiero Cavalleri (RCSI).”
