Potential Turning Point: Is the End of ABIM MOC on ASCO’s Agenda?
As discussions on ending the ABIM MOC (American Board of Internal Medicine, Maintenance of Certification) program continue on social media, the Editor-in-Chief of the Blood Cancer Journal Vincent Rajkumar recently marked a milestone—collecting 17,000 signatures on a petition to end MOC, adding about seeking support from influential medical societies. Quoting Vincent Rajkumar on Twitter/X:
“We will be asking our societies – ASH (American Society of Hematology) and ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) et al to intervene next.”
Responding to this, Dr. Thomas Tucker shared that ASCO’s President Lynn M. Schuchter, confirmed the inclusion of the ABIM MOC issue on the agenda for the upcoming board meeting. Quoting Thomas Tucker on Twitter/X.
“The President of ASCO, Dr. Schuchter, has informed me that the ASCO Board of Directors has this on the agenda for their meeting next week.”
Will ASCO influence the future of ABIM MOC and are other medical societies going to take action? Stay tuned for updates on this development.
