POEM Group’s Statement on Current Situation in Gaza
Pediatric Oncology East and Mediterranean (POEM) group shared on X a Statement on Current Situation in Gaza:
“On behalf of the Pediatric Oncology East and Mediterranean (POEM) group representing 110 pediatric cancer centers from 28 countries in the region, we are deeply saddened by the ongoing destruction and loss of innocent lives in Gaza.
Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues in Gaza who are facing immense suffering, pain and danger. We join the calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and for the delivery of significant humanitarian assistance. Innocent civilians must not suffer because of the wars and this is even more dramatic for vulnerable population, such as children with cancer and their families. Since the children with cancer drive our mission no matter where they live, regional efforts are ongoing to assist our colleagues in Gaza and to provide those children with secured places to continue their life saving treatment effectively. However, we do not know if we will ever be able to heal their psychological wounds.
Our hearts go out to the families who have lost their loved ones and homes. We hope the international community will come together and work towards a peaceful resolution and ceasefire.
We pray for our colleagues to stay safe and protected as well as for a quick resolution and end of suffering for all.
POEM Group”
