Highlights from SIO2024 Conference

The SIO 21st International Conference took place at the City of Hope from October 25-27, 2024, under the theme “Full Circle Translational Integrative Oncology – from bedside to bench and back.” This year, ticketed pre-conference workshops were offered before the main conference began.

Three workshops took place on the morning before the main conference:

• Building Bridges: A Workshop on Establishing a Thriving Integrative Oncology Program
• Getting your Integrative Oncology Proposals Funded: Practical Advice from Experts and Funders
• Exploring the Growing Potential of Cannabis in Cancer Care

Here are some highlights from the event:

Alex Chan:

“Day 1 of SIO2024 annual meeting – lots of good science and always good to network and catch up. Looking forward to our MASCC/SIO joint session tomorrow!”

Eugene Ahn:

“Sumanta Pal started off his eloquent review of microbiome research at SIO2024 mentioning he got interested in this field after being strongly encouraged to given agriculturalists already have a century of science, knowledge and experience of manipulating soil microbiomes for optimal plant health.

Main message at SIO by other speakers – increase natural dietary fiber intake (nuts, legumes, fruits, vegetables) in exchange of processed foods is a reasonable recommendation albeit not based on large RCT, but unclear if probiotics helps and some studies show possible harm. Exciting studies underway!”

Jun Mao:

“Burt Rosen thank you for your provocative and humorous perspective as a patient on AI and integrative cancer care at SIO2024. Your passion and tireless effort for moving cancer care forward is truly inspiring!”
