Highlights From The AIEOP 2024 Congress

The AIEOP 2024 Congress took place in Bologna, Italy, from September 30 to October 2, 2024.

“Was an exciting opportunity for our research nurse Rossella Sagliano to present this week at the AIEOP: Associazione Italiana Ematologia Oncologia Pediatrica 2024 Congress on the preliminary usability data of our smartphone APP, developed in-house to remotely monitor cerebrospinal fluid shunts in children with hydrocephalus and brain tumors.

This is a joint research project between the Neurosurgical Oncology Unit and Neuro-Oncology Unit at Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù starring:

“AIEOP’s biggest event of the year is here!

Day 1 of the 2024 Congress kicked off yesterday with the AIEOP / Fiagop ETS, parent and patient advocacy association, Round Table: ‘Clinical research – what is it for and how to support it’.

Opening Ceremony took place with the introduction by Prof Carmelo Rizzari, President of SIOP Europe, the European Society for Paediatric Oncology (SIOPE)

Presidential Symposium: Best Five Abstracts with Moderators: President Arcangelo Prete and President-elect Angela Mastronuzzi

A highlight also included Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Children lecture by Prof. Andrea Biondi.

The evening concluded with a hematology-oncology themed treasure hunt!”

“Today we had the pleasure of participating in the AIEOP-AIOM joint session on ‘Secondary cancers in adulthood after a tumor in pediatric age’ at the XLIX AIEOP National Congress in Bologna!

Many points for discussion and reflection shared with Alice Indini on hereditary syndromes and management challenges of secondary tumors in pediatric patients cured of cancer, with the moderation of Fedro A Peccatori and Terenziani Monica!

“Day 2 recap of AIEOP’S 2024 Congress and day 1 of AIEOP’s Nursing Congress.

Meet the experts discussed the following topics: retinoblastoma, extraocular retinoblastoma: state of the art and perspectives, data transfer in non-profit scientific research – 2008-2023: lessons learned after 1,000 procedures

Sessions included: Relapsed disease after first-line treatment – Ewing sarcoma, neuroblastoma, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia with Prof. Franco Locatelli.

– Acute toxicities related to new treatments

Throughout the day we heard inspiring oral presentations. We ended with lectures on new therapies and treatments, concluding with the awards and assembly meeting.

  • Rehabilitation indications after orthopedic oncological surgery
  • Respiratory physiotherapy for patients with pulmonary sequelae
  • Transitional care and psychological impact of this care

  • In-depth analysis: application, critical issues, privacy
  • Genomic alterations
