Yan Leyfman, Medical Oncologist, Co-Founder and Executive Director of MedNews Week, shared on LinkedIn:
“Excited for our latest review exploring the intersection of multiple myeloma and COVID-19 in MDPI Biomedicines!
Our work examines how shared mechanisms of immune dysregulation – including IL-6 signaling, T-cell exhaustion, NK-cell dysfunction, complement activation, and treatment-related immunosuppression – may contribute to the heightened vulnerability of patients with multiple myeloma. We also critically evaluate the emerging role of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a biologically promising, yet still unproven, therapeutic strategy, while highlighting the significant evidence gaps that remain – particularly the absence of any MM-specific clinical data.
I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Chandler H. Park for his outstanding mentorship, encouragement, and belief in our team throughout this project. Your guidance continues to inspire me to ask meaningful clinical questions and pursue research that can ultimately improve patient care.
A heartfelt thank you as well to the entire MedNews Week team. This publication is a testament to what a passionate, collaborative group of volunteers can accomplish together. Your dedication, countless hours, and commitment to advancing oncology education made this work possible.
Every publication is another reminder that science moves forward through teamwork, curiosity, and mentors who invest in the next generation. Looking forward to continuing this journey.”
