“Hot off the press! A week before ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology annual meeting in MAdrid for everyone to read
Pleased to share with the our comprehensive review in Cell Press journal Med by Cell Press.’Cancer plasticity and histological transformation as adaptive resistance mechanisms in precision oncology’
Precision oncology has transformed cancer therapy, but tumors adapt.
One of the most striking escape routes is histological transformation: a cancer that responds beautifully to targeted therapy can change its very identity, from adenocarcinoma to small cell or squamous for example.
In this review we examine:
- How different forms of tumor plasticity drive histological transformation as a resistance mechanism across anticancer therapies
- The underlying biology + mechanisms behind these lineage switches How precision oncology, informed by a deeper understanding of plasticity, can be used to anticipate, detect + overcome transformation + improve outcomes for patients
- If we want the next generation of cancer therapies to last, we have to treat cancer as an evolving system, not a static target.
Grateful to an army of amazing co-authors, led by Nick A. Kuburich and Mohamed Gouda with Breanna R.
