“Excited to share our new invited review, published today in Experimentaland Molecular Medicine (Springer Nature)Decoding T cell exhaustion in the tumour microenvironment

T cell exhaustion is not simply a dysfunctional endpoint, but a dynamic differentiation landscape shaped by persistent antigen stimulation, metabolic stress, epigenetic remodeling, and spatial organization within the tumor microenvironment.

In this review, we discuss how progenitor exhausted T cells (TPEX) transition toward terminal exhaustion, how distinct tumor niches regulate these cell states, and why preserving stem-like T cell populations may be critical for achieving durable responses to cancer immunotherapy.
