“September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and we want to take a moment to think about the millions of people around the world living with leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma.
Blood cancers touch more lives than we realize. They represent one of the most diverse and complex groups of cancers, affecting people of all ages, from children to older adults. Worldwide, hematologic malignancies accounted for over 1.3 million new cases and more than 700,000 deaths in 2022 alone.
Every blood cancer journey involves more than one person. Alongside each patient are families and caregivers who provide support and strength through every challenge and every milestone.
Research has significantly advanced our understanding of these diseases through progress in molecular profiling and expanded treatment options, including immunotherapies and targeted therapies. These advances are helping to refine diagnosis and personalize treatment, while opening new possibilities and offering hope for the future.
At Servier, hematology and oncology research is at the heart of what we do. Close to 70% of our R and D budget is dedicated to oncology, with a strong focus on rare cancers. We also collaborate closely with patients and patient groups to gain a deeper understanding of blood cancers and the impact these diseases have on their lives, helping us to better adapt our research efforts and the development of new medicines to meet the specific needs of patients.
This September, we’re thinking of everyone facing a blood cancer diagnosis, and of the researchers, doctors, and caregivers walking alongside them.
