Roberto Pestana, Clinical Oncologist at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, shared on X:
“Great presentation by Sandra P D’Angelo on T-cell therapies in sarcoma.
TCRs clearly work for cancer-testis antigens in select patients and interesting data on TILs to be presented at ESMO 2026 on monday.
However, patient selection still restricts who is eligible – target expression, HLA subtype and geography!
Afami-cell only approved by FDA, no other agent.”
Conclusions from the presentation:
Afamicel and letecel have shown promise in synovial sarcoma and myxoid round cell liposarcoma.
- There is an on-going need to identify biomarkers of response/resistance
- Consideration of synergistic combinations may optimize efficacy (mRNA vaccines)
Leveraging cancer testis antigens as promising therapeutic targets through alternate therapeutic approaches, ie bispecific antibodies will continue to expand the field via off the shelf-options.
Exploring alternate adoptive cell approaches, ie TIL, CAR-T as well as new targets, ie fusions will contribute to novel and exciting therapeutic options in the future and expand beyond the HLA restriction.
