“New research highlights important gaps in the availability and use of cancer registry data across the Caribbean region.
In this scoping review, researchers examined 126 publications using data from Caribbean cancer registries (CRs), covering data collected between 1958 and 2018. The review found that publications using CR data remain concentrated in fewer than half of the 33 Caribbean countries and territories included in the study, with most relying on data from population – based cancer registries.
The findings underscore the importance of establishing and strengthening population – based cancer registries, improving the quality and dissemination of registry data, and bridging gaps between data collection, research, and cancer control policy. These efforts can help address key knowledge gaps and inform cancer control priorities across the region.
