How Can New Blood Test Improve Early Liver Cirrhosis Detection? – National Cancer Centre Singapore

National Cancer Centre Singapore shared on LinkedIn:

“Through a collaboration between NCCS and global RNA tech company Mirxes, a breakthrough test that can detect liver cirrhosis risk before symptoms appear was launched today. CIRRHOClear  is a non-invasive blood test that uses microRNA technology developed from findings from the landmark liver cancer Elegance  study, led by NCCS’s Prof Pierce Chow.

Liver cirrhosis is characterised by progressive scarring and hardening of the liver. Yet it often develops without any symptoms, and standard screening can miss early-stage scarring. If left unmanaged, liver cirrhosis can lead to liver failure and liver cancer, which is the 3rd most common cause of cancer death in men and 5th in women in Singapore. This is of particular concern, as the majority of liver cancer cases are currently diagnosed at an advanced stage.

Clinically validated with high accuracy (89% sensitivity, 95% specificity), the non-invasive blood test can identify individuals at risk early, giving clinicians a tool to help guide timely decisions for their patients.

The IP for the test is jointly owned by NCCS and Mirxes.
