Melissa Lim, University Lecturer at University Malaysia Sarawak, shared on LinkedIn:
“We are delighted to share our latest publication in BMC Infectious Diseases, highlighting important findings on high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) among women in Sarawak.
This work is a collaboration between academia, public health and clinical research. It is also my PhD Student Cassandra Chee’s 2nd paper! Well done!
Key Findings:
- 7,781 women screened across Sarawak.
- 9.2% tested positive for high-risk HPV.
- HPV52, HPV68 and HPV56 were the most commonly detected genotypes.
- HPV prevalence varied geographically, ranging from 3.6% to 11.7%.
These findings highlight the importance of locally informed cervical cancer screening, vaccination and prevention strategies, particularly for rural and underserved communities.
Our goal remains clear: Advancing cervical cancer elimination through research, prevention and equitable healthcare access.
Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to all our collaborators!
