Manju George, Assistant Professor of Population Health Science at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Chair of the Mississippi Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, shared on LinkedIn:
“My October travels included a quick hop across the pond to London for the Cancer Grand Challenges REWIRECAN kick-off meeting!
Getting there was an adventure in itself. A delayed Delta flight out of Jackson threatened to derail the trip, so with help from the amazing Marina Parry, I switched to United. But an hour into the flight from Houston to London, a suspected landing-gear-door issue forced us to turn back. The plane was shaking, the noises were unnerving, and for a few minutes, I genuinely feared the worst. Thankfully, we landed safely.
I arrived in London at 4 PM instead of 6:25 AM, missing half a day of meetings. But I was grateful to reconnect with everyone at the Swan and dinner at Antalya’s, go over the Patient advocacy slides with Marina’s help, and get some sleep.
The second full day of meetings was exciting and well worth the journey. Dr Karuna Ganesh, talk is what I could understand the most..
Under Dr Bart Vanhaesebroeck’s fantastic leadership, I have so much hope for what this amazing team can accomplish with ‘rewiring’ colorectal cancer!
More here about the team and project:
It was great to see all the team members – Drs. Christopher Tape, Madelon Maurice, Vivian Li, Smita Krishnaswamy William Sellers Roger Williams and meet the new trainees, and CGC and NCI folks as well.
The day ended in the wonderful company of Smita and Bill, listening to their stories about their time in India as we ate at the oldest Indian restaurant in London – Veeraswami – it was fantastic!
Looking forward to expanding the patient advocacy team and making sure colorectal cancer patients and caregivers learn of all the groundbreaking work that will be done. The goal of the project is new understanding of exploitable colorectal cancer vulnerabilities leading to potentially new drugs that are ready to be tested in humans.”
