“In this invited Nature Portfolio Medicine piece, together with Pam Ling we discuss the study by Yeon Wook Kim and colleagues (4.5M cohort in Korea followed for 5 years) that suggested using e-cigarettes after smoking cessation may reduce the benefits of quitting on lung cancer risk and mortality, compared to not using electronic cigarettes.
We highlight strengths limitations of the study and also knowledge gaps and future research directions to address the long-term health impacts of using vapes after quitting smoking.
