International consensus on laryngeal preservation strategies in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer

Marco Ferrari, Associate Professor at University of Padua, shared a post on LinkedIn:

This is a great example of why sharing knowledge, experience, and diverse perspectives across disciplines is essential in cancer care.
Below is a link offering 50 days of free access to a consensus paper recently published in the prestigious journal Lancet Oncology. The paper presents expert insights into various aspects of laryngeal preservation in patients with laryngeal or hypopharyngeal cancer:
This work represents a comprehensive synthesis of current knowledge, made possible by the collaborative efforts of numerous specialists—otolaryngologists–head and neck surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical and clinical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, speech and language experts, and patient representatives.
A special thanks to all who contributed to this ambitious project.
First and foremost, Paolo Bossi deserves credit for initiating and co-leading the consensus process alongside Piero Nicolai, Roberto Maroldi, myself, and a and a dedicated team of young clinicians and researchers — Davide Smussi, Piergiorgio Gaudioso, and Francesca Mularoni — who showed exceptional commitment in managing the scientific rigor required for such a broad initiative.
Finally, heartfelt gratitude goes to the core scientific group (Pierluigi Bonomo, Jeppe Friborg, Maria Grazia Ghi, Vincent Gregoire, Kevin Harrington, Keith Hunter, Rosemary Martino, Ricard Mesia, Giorgio Peretti, Amanda Psyrri, Antonio Schindler, Giovanni Succo, Petr Szturz, Isabel Vilaseca González) and to the extended expert panel, which included more than 60 delegates from India, Italy, the US, Switzerland, the UK, Spain, Brazil, Germany, Denmark, Canada, France, Argentina, Poland, Japan, Australia, the Netherlands, and Belgium. (Unfortunately, space constraints prevent a full list here—please see the manuscript for all contributors!)
Wishing you an insightful and engaging read!”

Davide Smussi, Resident in Medical Oncology at Head and Neck Oncology Brescia, shared this post, adding:

“Extremely proud of sharing the final results of this Consensus conference, a massive, multidisciplinary, international effort aimed at summarizing the current body of knowledge and the actual open issues in the field of larynx preservation strategies for laryngeal/hypopharyngeal cancers.
To all HCPs involved in Head and Neck cancer care and patients’ advocates, please refer to Dr. Ferrari’s post to access the Policy review published on LancetOncology and the 137 statements agreed by the international recognized experts involved in the Delphi panel.
Special thanks to Marco Ferrari, Paolo Bossi, Piero Nicolai and Roberto Maroldi for having included and mentored me, alongside of Francesca and Piergiorgio, as young secretariat member across this 2-year-long ambitious project. I have learnt so much, and I am confident these results will help clinicians in providing optimal care to new patients.”
